Vagabond's House Inn Bed and Breakfast in CarmelHistoric Pet-Friendly Guesthouse on California Pacific Coast Highway
The Vagabond's House Inn Bed and Breakfast in a quiet but central location in Carmel-by-the-Sea, California, is a historic pet-friendly guesthouse-hotel just off the PCH.
The Vagabond's House Inn Bed and Breakfast is one of the many pet-friendly hotels in Carmel-by-the-Sea, California. Carmel is at the northern end of the Big Sur drive, considered to be the most dramatic section of the Pacific Coast Highway. The hotel is owned by Denny LeVett, who is also the co-owner with Doris Day of one of Carmel's other historic and pet-friendly hotels, the Cypress Inn. Rooms at the Vagabond's House Inn in Carmel The styles of the two hotels are totally different, though. The Vagabond's House, as the name suggests, is a more informal inn, whose 13 rooms mainly radiate from a central courtyard and have their own private entrances. The beautiful courtyard has waterfalls and a profusion of colorful plants, trees and ferns, giving a lush and totally relaxing feeling from the moment guests arrive. At night it is charmingly lit with fairy lights. Some rooms are rustic cabin-style, others are more plushly decorated and have king beds, but all are comfortable and have their own fireplaces, private bathrooms, cable TV, phone, fresh-cut flowers, and kitchen areas with refrigerators. Historic Vagabond's House Inn on California's Pacific Coast HighwayThe Inn was built in the late 1920s or early 1930s - no one is quite sure of the exact date. During the Second World War it was used as a base for military officers. Its unusual name came about not because of the clientele it attracted but because one of the regular guests was the poet and author Don Blanding, whose book Vagabond's House was a huge success for many years after its first publication in 1928. Blanding is also the author of a poem, Carmel-by-the-Sea, which is naturally very well-known locally. The Inn's reception and lounge area offers a delightful trip down memory lane. Glass cabinets hold LeVett's collection of childhood toys, from a full set of British lead soldiers to Big Little books featuring Dick Tracy and other heroes of the 1930s and '40s. Services at the Vagabond's House Inn in CarmelThe Vagabond's House has no restaurant, and breakfasts are brought to the guest bedrooms each morning or can be taken in the courtyard. The Inn is only a few minutes walk from the center of Carmel, however, and very close to the famous Hog's Breath Inn, owned by former Carmel mayor Clint Eastwood. Despite being so close to the center, the Inn is in a very quiet and leafy spot, away from any city noise. Other guest services include:
