The Northern California Renaissance Faire recreates a medieval marketplace at Casa de Fruta in Hollister on weekends from September 6 to October 12, 2008.

The Northern California Renaissance Faire brings the little village of Willingtown to life from September 6 - October 12, 2008. The fantasy festival is a weekend event that takes place on Saturdays and Sundays. Historic characters, including Queen Elizabeth I, Sir Francis Drake and Sir William Shakespeare will be among the historic personalities strolling the lanes of the marketplace.

The town is abuzz as the villagers excitedly prepare for a visit from Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth I, Sir Francis Drake and Sir William Shakespeare. The renaissance festival is a reenactment that is part history and part fantasy. historical figures recreate scenes that may, or may not, have occurred over 500 years ago. The Market Faire welcomes talented and exotic entertainment, including full contact jousting in the Tournament of Horses Arena.

Streets of the marketplace are filled with peasants and characters, including gypsy's, sword fighters, knights, jesters and fools. Visitors often become a part of the entertainment, by wearing period costume and adopting a medieval persona.

The Renaissance Faire is a recreation of a medieval marketplace, complete with entertainment, dancers, minstrels, royalty, vendors selling period arts and crafts, festival food. The festival is an opportunity to step outside of modern cares and reside in a historic era of over 500 years ago, in the 16th century.

Theme Weekends

The Northern California Renaissance Faire gets a fresh new theme each weekend, to make sure that every weekend is slightly different.

  • September 6-7: Celebrate the Children of the village. Children 12 and under are admitted free. Children's activities will be available to the younger lords and ladies.
  • September 13-14: Pirate Invasion Weekend. Captain Drake is looking for new crew members in the village. A contest for the best dressed privateers 7 years an under will be held both days. The winner will be presented to Queen Elizabeth.
  • September 20-21: Celtic Weekend.
  • September 27-28; Celebrate Bacchanalia / Masquerade. Villagers are also celebrating the traditional Feast of of Michalmas.

Jousting by The Knights of Avalon

The Knights of Avalon are champion jousters that present full contact jousting in Medieval and Renaissance style tournaments.

Stages of Entertainment

Entertainment is abundant at the Ren-Faire; Stages include the Main Royal Garden Stage, The Fools Stage, Amethyst Arbor Stage, Port 'o Call Stage, Romany Camp Stage, Curtain Call Stage, and In the Village.

Tickets

General Admission is Adults $25, Children $10. Weekend passes are $35 and are good for Saturday and Sunday of the same weekend. The Fairever Pass is great for festival fans who visit several times during the season. The fairever pass gives 12 day access for $150, which is a 50% savings for people who would visit every day. Tickets may be purchased on line at the the Northern California Ren Faire website.

The festival hours are 10 am to 6 pm.
