Besides being a great place to relax for a vacation, Newport Beach offers the chance to learn new skills from surfing and sailing to skateboarding and cooking.

Those lucky enough to be able to enjoy the beach and spend some time on the sand or walking the piers in Newport Beach may also be looking for the chance to learn something new. The Newport area has plenty to offer in terms of lessons, camps, classes and many other activities, including learning the ins-and-outs of the beach lifestyle with surfing classes, skating and beach volleyball courses.

Recreation Classes

The City of Newport Beach recreation department offers wide variety of year round programs and non-residents only have to pay a ten dollar charge to enjoy these great activities. Some of the classes offered are Beach Fitness Boot Camps, tennis, beach volleyball,skateboarding and sailing camps.

Junior Lifeguard Program

The Newport Beach Life Guards provide an extensive training course called the Newport Beach Junior Lifeguard program. This program is six-weeks of ocean safety and lifeguard training for children ages 9-15 that is open to non-residents. A swim test is required for acceptance into the program.

Surf Lessons and Camps

Everyone who visits Newport dreams of paddling a board and hitting the waves. For those who want to know how to do it, there are several options available. A variety of programs offer lessons to surfers of all ages and levels. Most provide a board and wet suit; all the student needs to do is bring a rash guard and willingness to paddle out into the ocean.

A visit to Newport Beach and the Balboa Peninsula offers the opportunity to enjoy great restaurants, beach treats on the boardwalk and fun activities in the sun and sand.
