The Resort at Pelican Hill is a new arrival among Newport Beach hotels, with ocean views, a rejuvenating spa, golf course and the largest circular pool in the world.

November 26th 2008 saw the opening of a brand new luxury resort hotel in Newport Beach, California: the Resort at Pelican Hill. The hotel offers ocean views over the Pacific, 128 private villas, 204 luxury bungalow suites, and all set in 504 acres of grounds in southern California, less than an hour south of Los Angeles International Airport.

Pelican Hill is designed in the style of the leading architect of the Italian Renaissance, Andrea Palladio, combining it with the best of contemporary California sophistication. Palladio lived in the 16th century and although most of his own work was done in Italy, his influence on architecture was so great that it spread to the châteaux of the Loire in France and to many of Britain's finest country mansions.

Among the new resort hotel's amenities are:

Villas at Pelican Hill

The luxury villas all have terraces with stunning Pacific Ocean views, and offer two, three or four bedrooms. Each has a private garage, gourmet kitchen, limestone fireplaces, a personal butler service, walk-in showers, wine cabinets and all the latest technology including 60" flat-screen HD TVs, and Bose audio systems with ports for your MP3 player.

Bungalow Suites

The 204 Bungalow Suites are smaller than the villas, and come with limestone fireplaces, marble deep-soaking tubs, 42" flat-screen HD TVs, a wet bar, and private terraces with ocean views.

Golf Course

The Pelican Hill Golf Club offers a 36-hole course designed by world-class golf course architect Tom Fazio, who has designed over a hundred courses around the world. Here there are ocean views from almost every hole.

The Spa at Pelican Hill

The rejuvenating spa covers 23,000 square feet and has 22 private treatment rooms. In addition there's a steam room, sauna, tubs, and whirlpool baths. A wide range of treatments is on offer, and there's a full-service salon and fitness center too.

Dining at Pelican Hill

Several dining options are available, including Andrea, which is the gourmet Italian-Tuscan fine dining restaurant. Andrea has its own unique temperature-controlled Pasta Room, a 1200-bottle glassed-in wine cellar, and all-year-round outdoor dining on a heated terrace with ocean views. The Grill at the Coliseum Pool offers American dining (with pizzas, of course!), and there is also an Italian-style coffee bar, and the Pelican Grill at the Pelican Hill Golf Club.

The Coliseum Swimming Pool

The main circular pool at Pelican Hill is literally a colossal affair, inspired by the Coliseum in Rome. With a diameter of 136 feet, it's the largest circular pool in the world. It has views of the Pacific Ocean and along the coast, and in the base of the pool are 1.1 million hand-cut glass mosaic tiles. There's also a smaller circular pool for children.
