Marine's Memorial Club and Hotel

The Best Hotel for Military Travel in San Francisco

Sep 8, 2008 Scott Jackman

The Marines' Memorial Association operates the Marines' Memorial Club and Hotel. This hotel is the best place for any military member to stay in downtown San Francisco.

Located a couple blocks from Chinatown and Union Square in downtown San Francisco, the Marines' Memorial Club and Hotel provides the military service member or retiree with the best accommodations in downtown San Francisco. It is a wonderful hotel located within walking distance to many of the San Francisco attractions. This hotel and club is great for military personnel who want discount travel but a first class experience.

Membership in the Marines' Memorial Association

The Marines' Memorial Association is a non-profit veternan's organization that operates the Marines' Memorial Club and Hotel. The best nightly rates are achieved by obtaining membership in the association. The association provides free membership to all "Currently Serving" members of the Armed Services who apply in person at the hotel. The normal rate for "Currently Serving" is a $35 annual donation. The rate for veterans and retirees is a $100 annual donation.

Rates for the Marines' Memorial Club and Hotel

"Currently Serving" members receive the best rate at the hotel. Their rate is $69 Sunday through Thursday and $89 Friday and Saturday based on availability. Considering the hotel's location and amenities, this is the best possible rate for "Currently Serving" military personnel. The normal weeknight rate is $199 for a standard room and up to $389 for a large suite (which can support a reception of up to 20 guests). The weekend rate is $219 to $420. Military retiree or veterans will be hard pressed to find any other room at this rate in downtown San Francisco.

Amenities and Benefits

The Marines' Memorial Club and Hotel is a beautifully decorated hotel and memorial to the Armed Services with an attentive support staff. For those who wish to drive or rent a car, parking is available 1/2 block away for $22.50 per day with in/out privileges. However, San Francisco is a city where traffic congestion, limited parking, and the abundance of public transportation makes personal vehicles seem unnecessary.

Hotel guests may use the Club One fitness center located in the lower level for free. This gym is not up to the caliber of most military gyms but it is sufficient to maintain a level of fitness while on vacation or a business trip. The library and museum located on the upper level provides a great place to relax, study, or simply read a newspaper. This is a wonderful quiet place to decompress (especially for those who have recently returned from deployment).

The Leatherneck Steakhouse and Lounge of the top floor provides a great view of the city. It is the location for the complimentary full-American breakfast. Happy hour is from 4:00 to 6:00 PM daily with great drink specials. Guests should schedule at least one dinner meal at the Steakhouse to enjoy the wonderful service and the city night lights.

The association hosts several guest speakers each year ranging from the Joint Chiefs of Staff to Hal Moore of "We were Soldiers Once ... and Young." These speakers provide a link to the military not normally found in San Francisco. Additionally, the association hosts acts ranging from jazz bands to stand-up comics. It provides a wide range of activities and attractions for its membership.

Recommendation

The Marines' Memorial Association along with the Marine's Memorial Club and Hotel is a great organization that supports the military community. This organization is an amazing asset to the military community. It provides a great experience and an amazing hotel in the heart of San Francisco. Every member (past or present) of the Armed Services looking to vacation in San Francisco should look to the Marines' Memorial Club and Hotel. Additionally, members should use the reciprical clubs to enjoy this high level of service at various cities throughout the world.
