Hollywood's rich music history is explored in a new rock and roll tour from Esotouric, the offbeat and unique Los Angeles tour company whose bus tours explore and expose the secret history of Los Angeles, from crime tours to punk music, from mean streets to the Mamas and the Papas, from the Black Dahlia Murder case to California's urban architecture.
The rock and roll music history tour, Where the Action Was, takes LA visitors on a bus ride through the city's musical legacy and to meet its music legends. Focusing mainly on Sunset Strip and Hollywood, the tour is led by Esotouric founder Kim Cooper and by music business veteran and pop critic Gene Sculatti.

Kim Cooper is the author of books including Bubblegum Music is the Naked Truth, Lost in the Grooves and an oral history of the cult band Neutral Milk Hotel.
Gene Sculatti is a music writer and critic whose work has appeared in Rolling Stone, Creem and the Los Angeles Times. He was Editorial Director of Warner Brothers Records and has written music books including The Catalog of Cool, Too Cool, San Francisco Nights: The Psychedelic Music Trip and The 100 Best Selling Albums of the 60s.

The rock and roll musical history tour is no mystery tour. It starts in the mid-1960s and time-travels through pop and rock music to the punk music explosion, of which Hollywood was west coast center. On the bus there's an onboard slide show that has some rare vintage photos, album artwork, concert ads and music ephemera.

Musicians and bands featured on the tour range from Herb Alpert to Frank Zappa and the Mothers of Invention, and include the Beach Boys, Buffalo Springfield, The Doors, Jan & Dean, Janis Joplin, Arthur Lee and Love, The Mamas and The Papas, The Monkees, Elvis Presley, The Rolling Stones, Sonny and Cher, Phil Spector, Iggy and the Stooges, Jimi Hendrix, and The Velvet Underground.
