The new GRAMMY Museum opens on the campus of L.A. LIVE in Downtown Los Angeles in Fall 2008, in the year of the 50th anniversary of the GRAMMY Awards.

The year 2008 sees the 50th anniversary of the acclaimed GRAMMY Awards, and the year-long celebrations will include the opening of the brand new GRAMMY Museum on the campus of L.A. LIVE in downtown Los Angeles in the Fall of 2008.

The new four-floor GRAMMY Museum will, like the GRAMMIES themselves, celebrate all kinds of music from hip-hop to classical, not to mention rock, country, R&B and jazz.

The 50th Anniversary GRAMMY Awards take place on Sunday, February 10th 2008, with the usual live broadcast on CBS. The ceremony is at the STAPLES Center in Downtown LA, which is around the corner from where the GRAMMY Museum is being built at the junction of Figueroa Street and Olympic Boulevard, not far from the Los Angeles Convention Center. The Museum is next door to Club NOKIA and NOKIA Plaza, and a short stroll from the J.W.Marriott, Ritz-Carlton and Residences at L.A. LIVE.

This four-storey L.A. music museum will be a mix of permanent exhibits, interactive experiences, visiting exhibitions, lectures, educational programs, movies and, of course, music. Lots of music. Visitors will learn about the creative process of musicians, whether classical or rock, and how the recording process works – and not just about GRAMMY Award winners. There will naturally be lots of rare archive material pulled from the 50-year history of the GRAMMIES, but also general exhibits on the history and importance of musical culture, and the achievements of music makers over the years, ever since the recording process was invented.

The GRAMMY Museum journey will begin in the lobby, with some multimedia presentations to set the scene. From here the journey proper begins on the Fourth Floor, where visitors enter through a Tunnel of Music and move on to a gallery space filled with those rare artefacts, films and interactive displays. This is followed by film footage of interviews with all kinds of musical artists, talking about their lives in music and the creative process.

The Third Floor takes visitors behind the scenes in a recording studio, with a chance to produce their own recordings too, after listening to the advice of engineers, music producers and musicians. Visitors also see behind the scenes for the GRAMMY Awards telecast.

The Second Floor has the GRAMMY Experience Theater, with an exclusive film about the 2008 50th Anniversary GRAMMY Awards broadcast, aimed at making you feel like you were there. There's also a Special Exhibits Gallery, with temporary exhibitions from other institutions. The opening exhibition will be 'Songs of Conscience, Sounds of Freedom', exploring the connection between music and politics in society.
