The FIG Restaurant in Santa Monica's Fairmont Miramar Hotel only opened in 2009 but has quickly become one of the top tables in and around Los Angeles. After dining there the Los Angeles Times described it as 'pitch perfect' and 'romantic', giving it 2.5 stars out of 3.

The aim of this Santa Monica restaurant is simple. Seasonal ingredients come first, cooked and presented simply in classic bistro dishes to bring out the full flavor of the best local foods.

Figs are, of course, a speciality in season, and starters might include foie gras with a fantastic fig sauce, while desserts could include FIG bars with a Greek yoghourt ice cream. One recent tasty dessert offering was strawberry shortcake with strawberry ice-cream and unusual but delicious minty-tasting micro-greens.

Despite the high quality of the food, of a standard not usually seen in hotel restaurants, FIG is a relaxed and casual place. The dining room seats just 73 people, with some private booths for those romantic meals together, a patio for outdoor dining, a beautifully back-lit bar with seating for anyone who wants to eat at the bar, and a communal table for anyone who may be alone but wants some dining company.
