A trip to Redondo Beach CA is a great idea for a cheap, off season vacation. This affordable vacation spot has a wide variety of activities to choose from - day and night

Most people visit beach towns on vacation for their magnificent sandy beach, cool blue ocean or scenic shoreline drive. The sunny, southern California city of Redondo Beach can provide the off season traveler with that and a little more. With Redondo Beaches mild temperature in the fall and winter a vacationer can simply enjoy a day at the beach or browse the shops on the Redondo Beach Pier. But it would be easy to add more entertaining activities to the vacation by scheduling a trip around an annual late season event.

Visit Redondo Beach in September and October

Enjoy Dive N’ Surfs Redondo Beach Lobster Festival in September. The Lobster Festival offers fresh Maine lobsters, live music, professional wakeboarding demonstrations, great beachwear fashion shows and a free children’s area along with other activities.

And in October, California's state tall ship, the Californian, and America's privateer, Lynx visits King Harbor, offering dockside tours including hoisting the sails, and steering the ship. Firing the main battery of 6-pound carronades takes place during this interactive event.

More off Season Events in South Bays King Harbor

Open from November to January, Seaside Lagoon transforms itself into a winter wonderland. This unique outdoor ice skating rink features DJs, music videos, movies, food, drinks and hot chocolate. Ruby’s Diner is also located in Seaside Lagoon, so enjoy an old fashion hamburger and shake while watching the skaters.

In December, the dedicated yachtsmen of King Harbors Yacht Club deck out their vessels with loads of lights and decorations and as soon as the sun sets over the breakwater, the annual Holiday Boat Parade begins. From the whimsical to the magical, each boat has something memorable for everyone.

Spectacular Palos Verdes Shoreline

The rocky shore of Point Vincente is just a few short miles south of Redondo and is as beautiful as the shores of Porros Greece. Stop and visit the Point Vincente Interpretive Center at 31501 Palos Verdes Drive West, Rancho Palos Verdes. The Centers vista point is a great place to enjoy the coastal view. And December through March, the pacific gray whale swim south along the coast of Southern California to the bays of Baja after spending the summer in the waters of the arctic. Point Vincente is the best vantage point for a chance sighting of the majestic pacific gray whale on this annual migration.

All of the events mentioned are free to the public with the exception of the Lobster Festival and Ice Skating at Seaside Lagoon. You can find more details at the city of Redondo Beach website.
