Doris Day and the Dog-Friendly Cypress Inn
Film star Doris Day has co-owned the Cypress Inn for over twenty years, and her movie posters, photos, and other memorabilia line the walls and corridors. Guests are unlikely to meet this movie legend, though, as today she is a very private person and lives in the Carmel Valley where she looks after her own animals. She also manages the Doris Day Animal Foundation.
Terry's Lounge at the Cypress Inn in Carmel
The lounge at the Cypress Inn in Carmel is named after Doris Day's son, Terry Melcher. Melcher began his musical career in a duo with future Beach Boy Bruce Johnston, and went on to produce many records by the Beach Boys, the Mamas and the Papas, the Byrds and many others. He was even a back-up vocalist on the Beach Boys' Pet Sounds album. Some of Melcher's gold discs and other achievements are on display on the walls of the lounge. He was only 62 when he died from melanoma in 2004, and the lounge is a fitting tribute to his talents and career.
Pet-Friendly Accommodation at the Cypress Inn
Pets are welcome at the Cypress Inn, but guests should let the hotel know about their pet or pets when they are booking. The Cypress Inn provides extras like pet blankets and pet bowls, and an area in the courtyard for washing off pets who have been visiting Carmel Beach, where dogs can run free.
