Black Stallion Winery is constructed on Napa Valley's old equestrian site on Silverado Trail. The grounds and interior reflect the old California ranch style.

Situated in the Oak Knoll district on the picturesque Silverado Trail, Black Stallion Winery is one of the newcomers on the block, having only officially opened in 2007. Although their wine has been in production for many years before, sold out of a small “barn”, the winery has grown into a large 20,000 square foot building, constructed in all natural materials on what was previously an equestrian center.

The Building and Grounds

At the entrance, visitors are greeted by a large black stallion, rearing on its hind legs atop a fountain, homage to the property history. The building itself is made of beautiful stone, with oversized wooden doors and arched trellises over the entrances and the outdoor tasting “room”. Black curtains adorn and define the outside space. Natural grasses, reminiscent of the ranchlands of early California, decorate the landscape along with ancient olive trees.

The Interior

Leather, mahogany, stone and wood together create an atmosphere that is warm and welcoming, yet elegant and sophisticated. The stone fireplace, hooded by a massive double mahogany mantel stands a few feet away from the oval shaped tasting bar. Several rooms lead away from the main tasting area, furnished with comfortable leather seating around wooden tables. A painting of a black stallion oversees one rooms’ activity from its vantage point on subtly painted walls. Another room boasts photos of the buildings’ previous life, bringing past and present together. Even the restroom is elegantly designed, with single piece stone washbasins in the shape of rippling waves. Other than the hub of voices from the main tasting area, the atmosphere at Black Stallion Winery is soothing and relaxing.

The Services

Black Stallion Winery is open for public wine tasting but also offers exclusive wine tasting to their club members in their private lounge. Another room is reserved as the VIP tasting room and private dining rooms can be reserved for group lunches or dinners. Private tours of the premises can also be arranged. Black Stallion Wines can not be found in stores and must be bought directly from them, through their website or wine club.

Public Wine Tasting

They are open daily from 10am through to 5pm. The fee is $10 for 4 wines. Link to Black Stallion Winery wines.
