Summer is nearly here - and nothing says summer more than a mouthwatering burger and a cold brew. Below is a short list of some of the best burgers in Los Angeles.

There are literally hundreds of bars, restaurants, pubs, fast-food joints in Los Angeles. Southern California is home to the original McDonalds, In-N-Out and the infamous California Burger. This is by no means an exhaustive list, but includes some of the finest beef, unique décor, and cold drinks among the plethora of choices.

Lucky Devils in Hollywood

6613 Hollywood Blvd., Hollywood, California 90028. 323-465-8259.

The tag line reads: “Devilishly Delicious.” This statement says it all. Try the Kobe Bacon Blue burger with a combination of gruyere and blue cheese, bacon and Kobe beef, or perhaps the Fresh Veggie Burger made with over 26 ingredients and topped with cheddar cheese, caramelized onions, and a special secret dressing. Not only are their burgers delicious, but the 25 microbrewers from noted West Coast Brewers is the icing on the cake. This joint is also known for their famous desserts, including a toasted pecan shake. The burgers are scrumptious, albeit a bit pricey, and the atmosphere is part of the fun.

Library Alehouse in Santa Monica

2911 Main Street, Santa Monica, California 90405. 310-314-4855

A restaurant known for their selection of microbreweries, this Santa Monica alehouse also has been a “Certified Green Business” since 2002. Nearly all the veggies come from the local farmers markets, their beef is grass-fed, and they have a goal of becoming a Zero Waste restaurant. Besides the Angus beef hamburger, there’s an ahi burger (with wasabi coleslaw and daikon sprouts), a small wine selection and over 25 beers on tap.

Go Downtown to the Redwood Bar & Grill

213 S Broadway, Los Angeles, California 90012. 213-680-2600.

A burger is always better when enjoyed in bar with pirate décor. Come to Redwood Bar & Grill to eat, drink and people-watch among the ahoy-matey paraphernalia. An old haunt for journalists and editors and politicians (it’s said that JFK ate here), this refurbished gastro pub serves excellent burgers, fries and sides. Try their special Redwood Burger, touted as the “Best Burger in Downtown” by the LA Downtown News.

In-N-Out Burger

Various locations across Nevada, Arizona and California

Founded in 1948 in Baldwin Park, California by Harry and Ester Snyder this burger joint was the first drive-thru hamburger stand of its kind. Their business philosophy was simple: “Give customers the freshest, highest quality foods you can buy and provide them with friendly service and a sparkling clean environment.” This philosophy has remained largely the same - everything is made fresh to order, no microwaves or freezers. The 100% pure-beef patty is divine, the veggies are crisp and flavorful, the milkshakes made with real ice cream, and their French Fries are the epitome of freshness. The entire process is visible to the customer.

Father’s Office in Santa Monica

1018 Montana Avenue, Santa Monica, California 90403 310-736-2224

If you can snag a table at this always crowded restaurant, the burgers and fries are delectable and they have a huge selection of beer on tap. They only have one burger, they only make it one way, but many argue that it is the best burger in Los Angeles. The flavorful beef patty is topped with caramelized onions, blue cheese and arugula. The sweet potato fries served with aioli sauce.
